Widespread though patchy through sw WA n to Geraldton and Houtmann Abrolhos and e to Eyreincluding Garden Island and Archipelago of the Recherche. Disjunct population in SA on Eyre Peninsula and St Francis Island. Wide range of habitat including woodlands, heaths and rock outcrops. Near threatened in WA.

Also known as Black-backed Snake. Found across southern inland NSW and northern Victoria, through Flinder's Ranges and northern Eyre Peninsula; also WA from southern edge of Nullarbor across to Cervantes and south to Albany. Rocky hillsides, and in open woodlands, dry forests, mallee and scrubland. Nocturnal. Eats lizards, sometimes other snakes. Harmful, bites painful, causing swelling, nausea, headaches, and sometimes worse.

Also known as Clarence River Snake.  Found on coast and ranges of eastern Australia from Barrington Tops in the south to s-e Queensland; an apparently isolated population in wet tropics rainforest between Townsville and Cooktown, ne Queensland. Shy, but aggressive when aroused; Dangerous. Normally nocturnal, but sometimes baskes or forages in the day. Feeds on wide variety of small vertebrates, but primarily on frogs and mammals. Live bearing, 5-8 young.

Capable of inflicting a fatal bite. Also known as Mulga Snake. Large, dangerous snake, widely distributed across most of Australia mainland ; becoming rare in areas where Cane Toads are established. Commonly feeds on other snakes; actually a black snake but called King Brown because it eats brown snakes. When a person is bittern they are given black snake anti-venom, not brown.

Widespread in arid Australia. generally associated with rocky outcrops, but also occurs in open plains, sheltering in termite mounds, soil crevices and in timber in watercourses. Nocturnal, eating birds, reptiles, frogs and mammals.

Also known as Curl Snake, because of habit of flattening body into a series of tight curls when threatened. Native to Australia. Venomous. Average length 40 cm. Found in grasslands, scrublands, and open woodland foraging amongst leaf litter and under rocks at night. In all states except Tasmania; Arid and eastern central Australia; north and central regions of Victoria; far n-e of WA.
