Also known as just Three-toed Skink. Lays eggs or bears live young depending on geographic location.  Shelters in soft damp soil under rocks, logs and leaf litter in wet and dry sclerophyll forest, woodlands and occasionally rainforest. Feeds on invertebrates. range from Jamberoo in NSW to Kroombut Tops in Queensland.

Inhabits Alpine woodlands, heaths and tussock grasslands. Isolated populations occur in Snowy Mountains of NSW and adjacent areas of Victoria, New England Plateau and Barrington Tops, ne NSW and Stanthorpe area, Queensland. Basks on rocks and tussocks, often near small streams. Critically endangered in Victoria.

Found in rocky areas in woodlands, tussock grasslands and heaths above 1600m at Mount Kosciosko NP, NSW and Bogong High Plain, Victoria. Large colonies share burrow networks under boulders and shrubs. Endangered in the Commonwealth and critically endangered in Victoria.

Found at Mt Baw Baw, Bennison, Dargo and Bogong High Plains. In grasslands and heaths, woodlands and boggy creeks on mountain plateaux above 1000m. Active in cool sunny weather, retiring to cover during warm periods. Endangered in Victoria.

Disjunct populations through highlands of NSW and ne Victoria to low altitude basalt plains of southern Victoria, south to Tasmania and east to eastern SA. Found in tussock grasslands with few or no trees. Vulnerable in Vic and Was.; rare in SA.
