Disjunct populations through highlands of NSW and ne Victoria to low altitude basalt plains of southern Victoria, south to Tasmania and east to eastern SA. Found in tussock grasslands with few or no trees. Vulnerable in Vic and Was.; rare in SA.

Occurs in rainforest and associated moist habitats, including wet sclerophyll forest and montane heath; from sea level to the uplands, but typically absent from the highest peaks. Found in northern Queensland.

Found in dried sclerophyll forrest, woodlands and rock outcrops, particularly granite or sandstone, from ne NSW to mid-eastern Queensland. Shelters in rock crevices, under slabs and sometimes under bark.
